Charles E. Matthews

CEO/Founder

Charles E. Matthews, is the CEO/Founder of The Matthews Foundation.  The Matthews Foundation is a charitable and educational non-profit organization with 501 © 3 status. The Matthews Foundation serves a dual purpose to assist homeless and displaced children and award scholarships to high school students belonging to a single parent household who are seeking a higher education. The Matthews Foundation was created because he has a heart for people who are in need and to give back to the community. 


Reverend Charles Matthews was born and reared in Aiken, South Carolina. He was educated in the Aiken County Public School System. He received an earned his Ministerial Certificate of Completion from Mt. Canaan Baptist Association and the Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta, Georgia in 2010. 


Reverend Matthews was appointed Director of Second Baptist Children’s Church. Which he developed and organized.  He is passionate about Biblical teaching and works closely with the children teaching practical and holistic principles designed to promote childhood spiritual growth and help improve their academic and leadership skills. 

 

He retired from the Savannah River Site with 31 years of service as a control room manager.   At the age of 38, he became an entrepreneur.  He owns and operates his own lawn care business.


Reverend Matthews is also committed to serving the citizens of his community.  He serves on the City of Aiken Planning Commission, and with the ODAT Organization dedicated to helping at-risk teens, one degree at a time. 


Reverend Matthews is a well-rounded individual who loves God and people.  He lives his life with passion, dedication, and grace firmly believing in Proverb 3:5-6. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart: lean not to thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.”


Kimberly G. Toney

Secretary

Kimberly G. Toney is a community, grassroots person focused on assisting people in need; educating and informing people of community issues and ensuring that the community is better than before.  As a native of Aiken, South Carolina, Kimberly attended Aiken County Public Schools, graduated from South Aiken High School and studied Civil Engineering from the University of South Carolina.   She has a passion for The Matthews Foundation’s mission to assist homeless and displaced schoolchildren in the Aiken County Public School System’s McKinney-Vento Program.  She serves as Secretary for The Matthews Foundation and has been a Board Member since its inception in 2022. 


Kimberly works for Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) as a Civil Construction Discipline Engineer.  She has over twenty-eight years’ combined experience in South Carolina State Government from SC Department of Transportation and Richland County Government.  Kimberly is the owner of ProConstruction Services, LLC, a construction inspection service and construction project management company. 

Kimberly spends her time volunteering, serving and working on various community and local organizations.  Her Christian beliefs and service includes being an active member of Friendship Baptist Church in Aiken, South Carolina, where she serves on various ministries. Kimberly is the proud mother of two adult daughters, Rebecca and Rachel and MiMi to six grandchildren.

Elizabeth Morris

Treasurer

Elizabeth (Liz) Morris embraces the value of citizenship and has not only applied it to her life but is a model of servant leadership. Her “roll-up-your-sleeves” approach to public service has impacted thousands of young lives in the South Carolina and well beyond.


She attended public schools in Aiken County and graduated from Ridge Spring-Monetta High School in 1987. The same year, she joined the United States Armed Forces (National Guard) to assist with college tuition and received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve in 1991. She attended the

University of South Carolina – Aiken, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice and Military Science. Then in 2001, she completed studies at Central Michigan University at Fort Gordon, GA, with a Master of Science Degree in Administration.


Her career path has included positions with the South Carolina Department of Corrections working with youthful offenders as a probation/parole officer and later as the Director of Community Programs for Aiken County. She also worked for South

Carolina Mentor as a recruiter/supervisor blessing the lives of children by finding homes and good parents to care for them. Morris joined Clemson University’s Youth Learning Institute (YLI) as a Regional Youth Advocate responsible for developing partnerships with organizations around the state to create and support programs

that respond to the needs of children, families, and communities. She recently returned to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice as the Manager for the Career Readiness Center. She is also a national trainer for One Circle Foundation.


Above all her accomplishments and experiences, Morris is most grateful for her faith and family. She and her husband, Daniel, are the parents of three wonderful young adults — Daniel, Robert, and Kimberly. The entire family maintains membership at

Second Baptist Church in Aiken.


Dwayne L. Budden

Member

Dwayne L. Budden has been a Board Member of The Matthews Foundation since its inception in 2022.  Dwayne is a Supply Chain Power User at Schneider Electric, Nashville, Tennessee. He resides in Sumter, South Carolina with his wife and two children: one daughter, Aisha and one son, Ethan.  They are faithful members of Brookland Baptist Church in West Columbia, South Carolina. 

Michelle Page Bush

Member

Rev. Michelle Page Bush, the eldest of five children. She is the daughter of John and the late Ola Page.  Her Christian foundation was formed in the Cumberland AME Church.  She was educated in the Aiken County Public School System and received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of South Carolina - Aiken in 1981.  In 1996, she obtained her certification to teach on the secondary level and taught in the public school system for 22 years.  In 2001, she earned a Master of Education from Lesley University of Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 2004, led by the Holy Spirit, Rev. Bush entered Erskine Theological Seminary, Due West, SC, graduating with a Master of Christian Education.  In 2008, she preached her initial sermon and was licensed as a “proclaimer” of the gospel under Rev. Douglas A. Slaughter, pastor of the Second Baptist Church in Aiken, SC.  In June, 2011 she was ordained through the Mt. Canaan Association. 


Currently Rev. Bush serves as an associate minister and as Minister of Christian education at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Jackson, SC, where her husband, the Rev. Paul H. Bush is the pastor. In the work of ministry, she conducts workshops, trainings, teaches, preaches and serves where she is needed for the up building of God’s kingdom and the development of disciples. Rev. Bush is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Co-Founder of Eden’s Ministry, and a Lifetime Member of the NAACP.  To the Bush union there are four adult children and nine grandchildren. To God be the Glory for all that He continues to do!

Ernie L. Murray, Jr.

Rev. Ernie L. Murray, Jr. is a preacher and former pastor, an alternative schoolteacher, and a retired Navy careerist. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, with a concentration in Human Resources, and earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching, achieving certifications in middle school mathematics and English Language Arts.  He decided to pursue a career in education and began as a substitute teacher in the Richmond County School District, Augusta, Ga before attending Augusta State University and earning a Master of Arts in Teaching. After earning a degree, his first teaching assignment was at the P.R.I.D.E. (“Personal Responsibility in Developing Excellence”) Academy, the alternative education program located in Edgefield, SC.


After a year, PRIDE Academy was revised by the Edgefield County School District and he was assigned to Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton (J.E.T.) Middle School also in Edgefield County and taught English Language Arts and Mathematics for 7th and 8th grades. Rev. Murray also served as an administrative assistant in charge of discipline for one year. However, after four wonderful years, a change in my wife’s employment brought the Murrays to Rock Hill.  He secured employment at A. R. Rucker Middle School, as a 7th grade math teacher. Three years later, he was assigned to Barr Street Learning Center. Currently in his initial year at the learning center, he teaches middle school math.  Rev. Murray also teaches and assists high school students and G.E.D candidates in mathematics.

Rashad Roland

Member

Eric Rashad Roland was born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina. With a passion for ensuring the safety and well-being of children, he currently holds the position of Safety & Training Transportation Supervisor at Aiken County Public Schools.


Aside from his professional endeavors, Rashad has a deep love for Christ and enjoys working and singing at his church, Jordan Missionary Baptist Church. He finds immense joy in using his talents to uplift and inspire others.


Rashad's compassionate nature extends beyond his work and hobbies. He is always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need, embodying the true essence of altruism.


Thanks to his unwavering dedication and commitment to the community during the pandemic, Rashad was recognized as one of Aiken Standard's Coronavirus Heroes. Moreover, he was featured as one of Aiken Standard's Sunday's Best, showcasing a behind the scenes look into his life.


In all aspects of his life, Eric Rashad Roland remains a shining example of attributes he tries to embody each day: kindness, dedication, and passion.

Heather Staniszewski

My name is Heather Staniszewski. I have been teaching Visual Arts for the Richmond County Board of Education for 29 years. I am the Visual Arts and AP Art and Design/Drawing Instructor at T.W. Josey High School, PBIS Coach, Department Chair and Lead Art Teacher for the Richmond County  Board of Education in Augusta Georgia. My family moved from Aiken while I was finishing my Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree at Olivet College in Michigan.  I was a member of the Comet softball and swimming team. In summer of 1991, I became a lifeguard and water safety instructor at the City of Aiken Smith Hazel Pool where I taught over 1000 children how to swim. In 1995 I came the Certified Pool Operator until 2016. My experience at the City of Aiken Smith Hazel Pool allowed me to meet so many families that allowed their child or children to learn how to swim with me. I gained many valuable friendships and memories throughout working there. I volunteered my time for over 20 years with American Red Cross and instructed many young teens and young adults in the CSRA how to become lifeguards and water safety instructors. Currently I am working on my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction at AU. I enjoy spending time watching my nephews play baseball and my niece on the swim team. I was extremely excited and honored when I was asked to become a member of the Matthew's Foundation Board. I’m blessed to be a part in The Matthews Foundation’s mission of helping displaced and homeless students in Aiken County Public School System.
